Hongik Eco Farm Is Using Exciting Farming Techniques

What is Hugelkultur?

Have you ever heard of Hugelkultur?  Well, it’s based in German farming practices, and is essentially a way of creating raised garden beds using recycled, dead wood at its base!  What a creative way to use all the debris from the farm for a needed purpose — and fertilizing the soil at the same time.

How do we do it?

1. We start by layering logs and branches alongside green compost materials such as grasses and weeds

2. Top it off with more branches

3. Coat it in soil

4. Lastly, we wait till everything breaks down and creates an enriched matter for raised bed growing the following year
