April Highlights

As we launch our 2026 season at Hongik, our partner food pantries are reporting increased demand. In response—and with new support from McHenry County Master Gardeners—we aim to double our donations from 11,500 vegetables in 2025 to 23,000 in 2026.

As rising food prices continue to impact households, many are turning to gardening to stretch their budgets. We are committed to making every volunteer experience a learning experience through simple practices—daily huddles, shared observations, impromptu teachings, and planned demonstrations—so each volunteer leaves with practical skills for their own garden.

In times of economic strain and added stress, we lift up gardening—especially gardening together—as a practice that supports emotional well-being, physical health, connection to nature and others, a sense of purpose, and a healthier diet.
